A Place To Call Home

Joey's Bio

Leading worship is one of my passions.  I have been a worship leader for the past 17 years, and my only regret is that I did not become involved in this ministry sooner.  There are many people who have had great influence in my life, but I would have to say that my maternal grandparents have had the most profound effect.  I remember as a child that my grandfather would pick me up and take me to church each and every Sunday morning, and I think that is why I am a Christian today.  He never got to see me lead worship, and I will always regret that, because I know he would have been very proud of me.  My family and I love our Sherrod Avenue Church home.

We came to Sherrod Avenue in November of 1999, and have developed some life long friendships.  It is truly a place to call home, and the people at Sherrod have  become such a big part of our lives.  I consider it a real privilege to lead worship at a place where the leadership and members are committed to worshiping God in  Spirit, and in Truth.  My family is a very large part of my ministry.

My wife Kelli and I were married on August 3, 1991, and she is the rock of my life.  She is truly my best friend and a constant support in everything I do.  We have been blessed with two wonderful sons that are the pride of our lives.  Luke is 12 and Brandon is 10.  Yes they are 22 months apart, and although it is sometimes challenging having them so close together, I really am glad this is the case.  We enjoy their participation in every sport known to man, and we love our trips to Tuscaloosa to Watch the Alabama Crimson Tide play.  We are avid Alabama Fans, and we attend all the Football games and many other sporting events throughout the year.  I also enjoy my other passion which is being the Band Director at Mars Hill Bible School.  It is the job that I always wanted, and I look forward to going to school everyday.  I have the opportunity to touch so many young lives, but in reality, I am sure I always learn more from my students than they do from me.  It is my goal as worship leader at Sherrod Avenue to provide a Christ centered Spirit Filled worship experience for our membership as well as our guest.  That is my passion, and I thank God that he has blessed me with the opportunity to serve him at this wonderful place.
